Important Security Alert: PHP2Shell Vulnerability – Update Your PHP Version and Secure Your Website

Security Level: Critical

What Is PHP2Shell?

A critical security issue known as PHP2Shell has recently been identified in the PHP programming language, which powers millions of websites and web applications around the world.

The vulnerabilities, identified as CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619, may allow attackers to execute malicious code on vulnerable web servers without logging in. They may also expose sensitive information stored in server memory.

This is a serious security risk for websites running vulnerable PHP versions, including websites built with popular content management systems (CMS) such as WordPress, Joomla, and Drupal.

PHP2Shell affects the PHP engine itself. Therefore, even if your website is running a properly configured CMS, it may still be at risk if the underlying PHP version has not been patched.

Why Is This Security Issue Dangerous?

If attackers successfully exploit this vulnerability, they may be able to:

Execute malicious commands on a vulnerable server.

Access sensitive website data and configuration files.

Expose passwords, authentication tokens, and other confidential information.

Modify website files, upload malicious scripts, or deface websites.

Disrupt website services or potentially compromise other resources accessible from the affected server.

The actual impact depends on the server environment, its configuration, and the attacker's access after exploitation. However, the severity of these vulnerabilities means that immediate action is strongly recommended.

Who Needs to Take Action?

All website owners and administrators using PHP should check their PHP versions immediately.

This includes customers operating:

WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, and other CMS websites.

    Custom-developed PHP websites and applications.

    E-commerce websites and online stores.

PHP-based billing systems, portals, and web applications.

Older websites running outdated or unsupported PHP versions.

Updating WordPress or installing a security plugin alone will not fix the underlying PHP2Shell vulnerability. The PHP runtime itself must be updated to a fixed release.

What Should You Do to Protect Your Website?

We strongly recommend that all hosting customers take the following steps as soon as possible.

1. Update Your PHP Version

Check the PHP version used by your website and upgrade to a fixed, supported release.

The initial fixed releases for the PHP2Shell vulnerabilities are:

    PHP 8.5.12 or later

    PHP 8.4.27 or later

    PHP 8.3.36 or later

    PHP 8.2.35 or later

If your website is running PHP 8.1 or an older version, plan an upgrade to a supported PHP release
